I came home one day and my brother shows me his new iPod nano. I was totally focused on doing dailies or something and didn’t pay much attention.  The next day I was like, “wait Corey how did you get that?”  He said, “There’s a defect in the battery and it explodes.  Apple is switching them out for free.”  I was like what?  Then he remembers, “Don’t you have a iPod nano first generation?”  I was like, “I do.”

Searched thru my bag and pulled it out.  My first iPod ever with a black face and silver back.  My only iPod, unless you count an iPhone.  It was the first flash drive nano with a color LCD screen.  I remember it being small.  I remembered what I engraved it with, which is too embarrassing to tell.  I charged it up for the first time in years.  I knew I had to back it up but was no longer sure what was inside.

I recovered some old work stuff, I looked at all the songs (there were a ton of them), then I discovered some pictures.

The pictures were from my first trip to California back in June 2006.  It was first trip ever to Disneyland and I put those pictures there so I would be encouraged to go again. We did. 2 more times after that.

The nano was so innovative when it came out. I remember browsing the web in my friends Chemistry lab at UH Manoa.  I remember telling my friend Jhonsen about the nano.  Minutes later I applied for the credit card thru Apple. I got approved.  I ordered it.

Jhonsen was like, “What? You ordered it?  You got approved for your first credit card.”  I was like, “Yeah.”

I remember when it came in the mail and how neat the packaging was and how it came with earbuds.  I was so happy.  It became my study companion during college, my public transportation commute companion when I worked 2 jobs and traveled 4 hours a day, the fricken Nano moved out of my mom’s house with me.  I got married and brought it with me to my honey moon.  Didn’t have much time to use it though, “cough!”

Then sometime after that, I kept it tucked away in my bag or somewhere near my desktop.  It collected dusk.  Right before I moved out of my apartment this past year, I remember dusting it off and removing the case.  I tucked it in my computer bag and sat in there until about a week ago.

That’s when the memories flooded in…

Thank you Apple you really do care,

Bryan Shon

BTW there are no 4 GB iPod nano’s anymore. I got a capacity upgrade for free.  The one pictured above is 8 GB.

I also geeked out and ordered a Lunatik Lynk watch band.  These are 50% off from what they used to be priced.  Go check it out.

Did you ever notice some websites when added to your Home screen on your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, or Android device; that the bookmark appears as a Icon instead of some generic thumbnail of your website or that annoying red bookmark icon for Andriod?

Well here is how you create one:

  1. Make a .PNG file that is 57 x 57 pixels. Save it as a “apple-touch-icon.png” and a “apple-touch-icon-precomposed.png.” Yes 2 files of the same thing. I used my original file that I used for my favicon.ico.
  2. Upload both of them to your root directory. It is usually “public_html” or “www” folder.
  3. Add the following code to your Header code or header.php on your WordPress template file:

<link rel=”apple-touch-icon” href=”http://drunkendwarf.net/apple-touch-icon.png” />
<link rel=”apple-touch-icon-precomposed” href=”http://drunkendwarf.net/apple-touch-icon-precomposed.png”/>

Don’t forget to change the URL. The experience of making my favicon.ico file made this seem easy.  I encountered no difficulties making my .png files.  When I put my files in my root directory my WordPress website did not load my .png icons when I created my bookmarks.  I had to put the exact url with the <link rel…> code. Well to my fellow bloggers I hope this helped.

Okay that was a task. In a vain attempt last night and using Gimp, I tried to create my own icon file that was 16 by 16 pixels for the blog. If you don’t know what I am talking about, look at the icon next to the website URL up on the address bar. For whatever reason, it kept saving it as 16 x 15 pixels or 15 x 14 pixels, whenever I would convert to a .ico file. Frustrated I went to bed, even rejecting my buddy, Bodie, to PVP on my fairly new Goblin mage.

Today on my way to work, I did a little more research and found some websites. I discovered this awesome video…

When I got home from work, my brother wanted to run Sethekk Halls and Heroic Utgarde Pinnacle for some mounts. During my half hearted run, I made my new logo at 64 x 64 pixels. Then saved it as a .gif so that when re-opened in Gimp the image would stay its own layer.

When we finished our mount runs, I copied my initial layer and scaled the layer to the following sizes: 32 x 32 pixels, 24 x 24 pixels, and 16 x 16 pixels; using the 64 x 64 pixel layer to copy each time.  Saved the file as a .ico.  Logged in to my hosting account, uploaded my new icon, and pointed my browser to http://www.drunkendwarf.net/favicon.ico. It worked but still wasn’t showing up on my address bar.

Then I remembered about the header and seeing a tidbit of code that points your web browser to the right .ico file:

<link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”http://drunkendwarf.net/favicon.ico” type=”image” />

I guess for some servers and browsers, it isn’t enough for you just to place your .ico in the right directory.

Finally it worked.  You may be asking why talk about some website technical difficulty?

It’s a lesson on perseverance.  If I gave up on the endeavor, my website would still be without a favicon.ico, and I would still lack the knowledge of the full capabilities of Gimp. I would be still be sitting on my thumbs and left wondering if it was me or just the computer.

I overcame a challenge and completed a task I never did before. I want you to think about how this relates to your real life situations and World of Warcraft.  For instance, playing my mage as Fire never netted me any results. My DPS sucked and I wasn’t sure if it was my lack of enchants, my understanding of the rotation, or my gear.  A few people told me to try Arcane.

Today before work. I switched my Fire spec to Arcane, changed my glyphs, and queued for Raid Finder. The results were astounding, well more so after I read and re-read the rotation, yes a 2 year old could do it.  Even if it is just a 2 button spam, it isn’t going to stop me from playing the spec. I did more DPS than I ever seen before on this toon. I finally felt like I am contributing and I hope to see more results the more I play.

If I just settled for Fire and never tried Arcane, my DPS would still be low, I would have been left wondering if my gear sucked or my enchants were still lacking or that I need to reforge. It’s like me using Gimp. If I didn’t commit the time to do research, my .ico file would still be broken.

With perseverance comes rewards, whether it be school, work, play, money, chicks, babies, or website building skills or World of Warcraft.

I’ll leave you with that.

Today’s topic: Me, Ironweaver your new drunken author of drunkendwarf.net

Why: Becuase if I did not introduce myself the whole hunter community would go crazy and be like wtf zomg who dis nub ftl gun?

My name is Ironweaver and I’m a very close friend to our drunken hero and beloved dwarf, Guntitan. I have my very own YouTube channel (which I shall be getting up again very soon) and had very own blog… BUT! My new home is here! You will find there are many similarities between me and Gun. For one we are short, for two we love beer, for three we love our dwarf ladies like we like our beer… stout and bitter. Last but not least we like hunter stuff!

SHOUT OUTS: This shout out goes to Guntitan. Thank you very much for letting me become a part of the amazing people here are drunkendwarf.net. I will try to keep the tradition alive and the ale stout! For Kahz’modan!

Aye!

I know I haven’t used that word in a long time.  My long time druid friend now a hunter friend, Ironweaver, started his own blog in his own voice and I remembered once I had a voice too.  Please visit his awesome up and coming blog at:

IRONWEAVER.WORDPRESS.COM

So far the bastard has caught all 4 spirit beasts and found the Time-Lost Proto Drake.  Even out rolled me in a couple of pugs that I invited him to on gear I would love to have.  Keep it in the guild, right?  I inspired him to start this blog and become a hunter.

When his main was his druid I remember him telling me, “You know why I love being a druid?”  I said, “No.”  He said, “You get to be your own p—y.”  Then he transformed into his running form and dashed away.

This one is for you, Ironweaver.

Some miscellaneous pictures that were sitting in my Screen Shot folder…

No need wait for Cataclysm we got your Worgen right here.  We will miss you Frostfang.

I read WoW Insider everyday.  On the bus, at work(both jobs), at home, while at the movies, when my wife is talking to me, etc…  It keeps me up to date on Patch changes and how they affect me.  They even spoiled Cataclysm for me.  Scattered Shots many blog posts keep me in check and make me a better hunter.  BRK taught me all about pets and gave me reason to play a Beast Mastery hunter.

It is an honor, WoW Insider, to make any list on your site.  Thank you!

Opera Mini 5 Beta Icon

Totally  kicks ass!

Go test it out for yourself.  Makes browsing Wowhead a breeze, now loads the full page of Wow Insider, but I can’t blog on WordPress.  Remember it’s only the Beta and they still have time to fix it.

I almost got everything I asked for, here’s my tweet to them about 5 days before they released the beta:

Opera Mini 5 Twitter

Did you see?  I asked for Tabs, and a find, we were on the same page.  Uh huh!  GT is genius.

Next release I get copy & paste.  One can dream right?

I just logged into WordPress and look at what I caught.  10 views today no… 2,500 Total Views.

2,500 hits

2,500 hits

I would like to thank Eresin and Davlin for discovering my blog, Mania for gathering all the pet information, Pike for all the role playing stories, Twisted Nether and Lassirra for listing me, and BRK for the inspiration to start this blog.  If there is anyone I missed please let me know.  Don’t worry I won’t be like Phineas and Ferb during their one hit wonder episode.

Davlin kind of asked in a totally unrelated email why I started this blog?

I figured it would be appropriate for the you to know when I hit a nice milestone in hits.

Let me list a few hunter skills that higher level hunter’s talk about that I never knew about when I was just a wee pellet shooting Hunter.

  1. Aimed Shot – you can pick it up at level 20 if you are a Marksman hunter.
  2. Steady Shot – a level 50 shot.
  3. Kill Command – a level 66 you could say buff to your pet’s attack power.
  4. Kill Shot – a level 70 shot

If you ever asked yourself,  ”What’s a shot rotation?”  LoL.  Sometimes I still forget.

At one point in time you didn’t know how to shoot or fill your paper doll or where to buy ammo.  When famous bloggers like BRK talked about Kill Shot and think, “What is he talking about?”

If you ever felt like you didn’t know how to kill things as a new Hunter.  If you ever felt like leveling from level 30 to 40 was the hardest thing you ever did.  If words or phrases like aggro and “burn things down” made you feel lost.

At the time you didn’t find any guides or blogs that talked about what you should be doing at this level, how to fight, where to get pet skills (before patch 3.0.2), what armor should you be using, where should you be questing, when you should be changing out your pouches or quivers, what quests benefit the lower level hunters, if you were like me…

Hey everyone,

I was in the market for a laptop for a few months now and after much deliberating:

My requirements were Bluetooth, illuminated keyboard, 4 GB ram, etc.

I got my new toy!

Pics

MacBook Boxes

Out of the shipping box still inside the box.

MacBook out of box with WoW running

New MacBook running World of Warcraft

Graphics

With a 256 MB video card this machine is made to play World of Warcraft.  Playing on my desktop I never knew that the game could look so beautiful and have a rich environment that paid attention to detail.  Running the game for the first time on this Mac was just amazing.

Control

I had my first run through of the game on this MacBook and can say that I had a very difficult time killing horde with no mouse, right click or Num Lock.  The Horde had it easy killing me.  I need to read the Key Bindings or get a mouse!

Specs
