Purpose

A bank alt is the toon you will be using to do all your auctioneering and banking. You will buy and sell off the AH. You will use him or her to store all profession based materials so that you may free up bag space on your main toons. You will mail mats, BOEs, transmog gear, and any profession based items to your bank alt to sell on the AH. You will mail your mats from your bank alt to your other toons to level professions. This will prevent you from going back to a main city, saving you time and allow you spend more time farming or leveling.

Besides storing loot to sell. Your bank alt will also store any Heirlooms, BOAs, and any vanity items that are not soul bound to your other characters.

WoWScrnShot_111413_072839

Personal Bank and Bags

You will need at least four 16 slot bags.  If you wish you may spend the gold on bigger bags and additional slots in your personal bank. The more slots you purchase the more bags you can use in your personal bank.  Holding items will prevent you from flooding the market and decreasing the prices.

The cost of bags and additional slots will add up to a decent amount of gold but the time saved from being able to farm without hearthing back to a main city will make it up.

To start off you may obtain:

Netherweave Bag – 30 G on the AH. You could also craft the bags. If you are running Kara, Heroic MGT, and Sethekk Halls every week you could get a ton of cloth. I actually store the Netherweave cloth on my bank alt and have my tailoring friends make bags for me. I sell the bags on the AH or put them on leveling alts. You should only craft the bags if you already have the mats. This is a work mule. The whole idea is to get him or her up and running so you can start storing and selling.

Frostweave Bag – 200 G on the AH. Eventually you will want to upgrade to these bags or better.

Also keep in my mind that all items stored in your personal bank can be sold on the AH via remote AH. You are limited to 200 postings a day and you may do your auctioneering via App or from Battle.net.

WoWScrnShot_111413_072821

Guild Bank

The guild bank will be used to store additional materials.  You will need to purchase a guild charter and get 10 individuals to sign it.  You may purchase additional bank slots at your convenience. The last few slots are 500, 1,000, and 5,000 gold. I would save them for later.

The best part is you will get to come up with a nifty guild name and give your bank alt additional flavor. You will also be able to design a guild tabard.  Be sure to kick out all the members who signed the charter.

Race

Race doesn’t really matter… Wait I take that back. They do matter.

Any female except gnomes, dwarves and most of the horde races except Blood Elves are sexy in their banking attire.

Worgens get Darkflight, an additional sprint.

Night elves run a little faster while stealth.

Goblins have a vendor discount and a portable banker.

Blood elves get a bonus to enchanting.

Male taurens make your banking attire stand out.

Altoholics guide to the bank alt – Has a really good point about being able to see what transmog pieces will look like on your toon.

Class

Do you want to Sprint, Blink, or Roll between the AH and bank? Then choose a Rogue, feral Druid, Mage or Monk.

If you want a consistently higher run speed. l recommend a Hunter, Deathknight, feral Druid, or a Paladin.

Do you want the option to wear a variety of clothes and bling? Then choose a Deathknight, Paladin or a Warrior.

Do you want a cool travel form? Then choose a Shaman or Druid.

Do you want to be a stealthy bank alt? Choose a Druid or a Rogue.

WoWScrnShot_111413_072640

Professions

In order to obtain any useful professions you will need to level your bank alt to at least level 5. Level 10 is recommended if you want to be able to see your toon on the armory. You will still be able to do auctioneering on the mobile app at level 1.

Engineering
As a engineer you can wear googles and give your bank alt a Steam punk feel. The benefit is you may ask a mage to open a Portal to Shrine of Seven Stars so you may do all your business in a convenient location. More on that later.

Enchanting
This will let you disenchant all low level greens and be able to tell if you can disenchant higher ones. Especially useful if you are leveling more than one toon.

Fishing
I personally would level fishing for the fishing daily and a chance at the Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat and other things like the ability to Find Fish. Maybe a slim chance at new fishing poles. Just more stuff to bling out your toon like String of Alligator Teeth x20.

Cooking
I would train cooking for a Cooking Fire. Just more spice for your already flavorful toon. You could aim for a Chef’s Hat by doing the cooking daily. You could also give your bank alt cooking heirlooms.

First Aid
Just being able to heal yourself while leveling is always perk. If you want to have American Red Cross symbols floating around your head level this profession. Then bandage your self in front of a auctioneer.

Archaeology
If your toon is over level 20 you may learn this profession. There really is no point since you will spend most of your time in a main city. I would pass on this one.

WoWScrnShot_111413_072612

Location

Shrine of Seven Stars – If you are an engineer there is a bank, guild bank, a mail box, and a auctioneer all in one spot and just a few steps away from each other. An anvil is there, too. Upstairs there are portals to every Capitol city. Don’t forget to set your hearth. Let a Mage port your low level bank alt to this location. High population

WoWScrnShot_111413_072556

WoWScrnShot_111413_072902

Stormwind
A mail box, bank, guild bank, and auction house all within one location. Close to the Darkmoon Faire.
Trade District has a high population. Dwarven District has a generally lower population.

Ironforge
A mail box, bank, guild bank, and auction house across from each other. Low population.

Orgrimmar
A mail box, bank, guild bank, and auction house across from each other.
High population

Silvermoon
A mail box, bank, guild bank, and auction house across from each other.
Low population

The Gear

I will recommend a few guides. Choose what you want. A standard tux with Diamond Tipped Cane is good enough for me.

Notable Items

Darkmoon Storage Box – Cost only 1 ticket. Buyer beware they are unique. You may only have 1 bag.

Unusual Compass – Just in case you forget your direction or just want to change your direction.

Diamond Tipped Cane – found inside the bag from the fishing daily. Sells for a decent amount of gold. Pimp on a bank alt. The tip sparkles white.

WoWScrnShot_111413_072758

Noble’s Elementium Signet – This ring causes your hand to sparkle.

Any fish off hand.

Lovely Black Dress – Only for the females. Please keep these away from Tauren males. Rare drop from Love is in the Air event. Sells for a decent amount but is very revealing.

Blood Elf Bandit Mask – a fun little helm. Matches well with the dress from lunar festival.

Enchants

Enchant Boots – Minor Speed is really all you need.

Companion Pets

Up to you but Disgusting Oozeling turns you green. Green = Greed

Quest items you don’t want to turn in. Gives you more flare.

Mount

Is there a rideable mount below level 20?

Addons

Altoholic – Keeps track of all the items in your bags, banks, and guild banks across all your toons.
Bulk Mail Inbox – You don’t have to wear out your mouse button.
Gatherer – Keeps track of all the mining and herbalism nodes you discover.
Auctioneer – Lets you scan the AH for prices. Use it then start selling.

Cataclysm: Cooking Hunter

EDIT:  Added in the new recipes added in patch 4.0.6.

No not cooking the hunter. I’m not a cannibalistic troll. Well here is a short list of cooking recipes that should be of a high priority for leveling and level 85 hunters. You use the new Chef’s Award obtained through the new cooking dailies from Stormwind or Orgrimmar. You can only stock up on 10 of them for now. I recommend stocking up before the Cataclysm release.

The list is going in a order that the vendor has them up for sale, which is the order in which they are obtained by cooking skill level.  Grab the ones that give you the most DPS first.

Agility is our priority stat and I recommend taking those recipes over the others.  I know some of us will want to take recipes whose meats are more accessible to us especially if you have a nice cooking tab in your guild bank.  Take them if those recipes are still useful to guild members.

Cooking Recipes easily obtained at skill level 450

Recipe: Lavascale Minestrone – See a nice boost to +90 mastery and +90 stamina with a fish recipe.

Recipe: Salted Eye – The Snake Eye recipe at +60 mastery and +60 stamina isn’t as good as the fish one. See I proved my reasoning.

Recipe: Broiled Mountain Trout – At +60 Haste and +60 Stamina, it is good for focus regen issues and faster shots.

Recipe: Lightly Fried Lurker – More crit is good.  This recipe gives +60 Crit and +60 Stamina.

Recipe: Seasoned Crab – If your shots are missing a lot use this recipe.  It gives you +60 Hit and +60 Stamina.

Recipe: Feathered Lure – You will need this to help you fish up the ingredients you need to help you level cooking.

Recipe: Lavascale Fillet – Huh? Expertise.  What Guntitan is nuts?  No.  You need this for Engineering’s Goblin Barbecue.  Get it when you get engineering at this point.  The Barbecue doesn’t give you any skill ups in cooking or engineering but good to have for raids.

Recipe: Highland Spirits – Anything that can help you level cooking is good.  Who would I be without a alcohol recipe?  The sober dwarf?  Now that’s just wrong.

Cooking Recipes obtained beyond skill level 475

Recipe: Tender Baked Turtle – Agility is our number one stat for every spec.  This recipe should be our first priority when we hit cooking level 475.  The recipe gives +60 Agility and +60 Stamina which will be great for leveling.

Cooking Recipes obtained at skill level 500

Recipe: Fish Fry doesn’t give us any stat boosts.  The recipe can help us level cooking if we do encounter Sharptooth while fishing.

Recipe: Scalding Murglesnout – You will encounter Murglesnout while leveling fishing.  It will help you recover health while leveling to 85.  No skill ups.

Recipe: Skewered Eel – At cooking level 500 this recipe is our first recipe we should get.  It increases Agility and Stamina by 90.  Until your guild gets 10,000 fish achievement you will be using this as a hunter for your food buff for raids.

Recipe: Baked Rockfish – This recipe gives us +90 Crit and +90 Stamina.

Recipe: Basilisk Liverdog – At +90 Haste and +90 Stamina, the recipe is good for more focus regen issues and faster shots.

Recipe: Grilled Dragon – Again, if you notice your shots are missing a lot, this is the food buff you want to level with if you can’t manage to get Hit from gear.  It gives +90 Hit and +90 Stamina.

Cooking Recipes obtained beyond skill level 500

Recipe: Fortune Cookie – Meh. They make you feel good. No skill ups.

Achievement Awards

Recipe: Broiled Dragon Feast – Do I have time for this? 5,000 feasts?  Goblin Barbecue is looking more and more attractive and it can help you complete achievement.  It’s a guild achievement.

Recipe: Seafood Magnifique Feast – Seriously, 10,000 fish?  It’s a guild achievement.

Novelty Items aren’t as important as the above but still fun for a Hunter and could help you level cooking

Recipe: Chocolate Cookie – Available at cooking skill level 505. Can help you level to 510.  Cookies!

Recipe: South Island Iced Tea – We don’t use mana anymore but sounds refreshing.  Especially after looking at the 10,000 fish achievement.  The recipe is available at cooking skill level 525.  No skills ups.

Get recipes based on stat priorities or on ingredients you have readily available to help you level the profession.  I hope this helps you focus on what recipes Hunters should obtain first while leveling cooking.

4.0.1 Food Buffs and Flasks to bring into ICC

A hunter without a range weapon is like a chef without a steak knife. This is why I’m bringing you a comprehensive list of what food buffs and flasks you should bring with you into ICC.

Spiced Mammoth Treats can be purchased this with 3 Dalaran Cooking Awards. You get DCAs by doing the Dalaran cooking daily you find in Dalaran. What is nice about this recipe is that you only need a 400 level cooking to learn it. Who said cooking was useless?

The Mammoth Treats increase your pets Strength and Stamina by 30 for 1 hour.

You can find Mammoths all over Northend but my favorite place to farm Chunk ‘o Mammoth is in Storm Peaks. This when you take out your tenacity pet and work on your AOE grinding skills.

As of patch 4.0.1 this still buffs your pet but does not show up as a buff when you focus on your pet.

Blackened Dragonfin another recipe that costs 3 DCAs. Besides Fish Feast this is another reason why hunters should be leveling fishing. This is a cheap alternative to Fish Feast and some argue it’s better.

The best place to fish Dragonfin Angelfish are from the schools in Dragonblight above Moa’ki Harbor in Lake Indu’le. If you haven’t found a Weather Beaten Journal, I recommend you find one at your earliest convenience. Find Fish allows you to see schools of fish on your mini map.

As of patch 4.0.1 Blackened Dragonfin is better than Fish Feast.  Agility now gives x2 Attack Power.

Fish Feast costs 5 DCAs. Unlike the previous cooking recipes this one requires a cooking level of 425.  It feeds your whole raid. It also costs more mats to make.

You’ll find yourself in Borean Tundra fishing for Musselback Sculpin, Grizzly Hills for Glacial Salmon, and Sholazar Basin for Nettlefish. There are other locations but the ones mentioned above are my favorite. I choose Sholazar Basin because you can farm the Nettlefish while you fish up the Phantom Ghostfish for one of the fishing dailies. Borean Tundra is another area you go to for a daily. You could always fish the waters in Lake Wintergrasp for each fish but their drop rates vary.

Flask of Endless Rage counts both as a Battle and Guardian Elixir. Can be made by your local friendly alchemists or guild mate. I just buy them off the AH for about 22 G a piece.  You can’t go wrong with 180 more attack power.

As of patch 4.0.1 Runic Mana Potion and Runic Mana Injector is no longer useful to Hunters. I hope blizzard introduces a Focus version of the potions in Cataclysm like Thistle Tea.

Each buff alone doesn’t look like a nice DPS increase but when you stack them up things add up. Prior to patch 4.0.1 and using my current gear it was a DPS increase. That’s like getting a upgrade to a gear slot without having the expense of gemming and enchanting it.

Level 70 freeze.

Aye!

I’m working on leveling my primary and secondary professions.  Most professions need to be at level 350 for Northend. I like having the ability to fish, mine, etc. while in Northend.

Finished:

  1. Mining (412)
  2. First Aid (392)

Almost Done:

  1. Cooking (327)
  2. Engineering (349) – 4 Eternium ores away.  Nagrand here I come.

Need to level:

  1. Fishing (304)

! Guntitan

Aye!

GT Lore.

While in Zangarmarsh I noticed that my cooking was at level 295 and that I needed to be at level 300 to become a Master cook.  I knew I needed Darkclaw Lobsters and some lures to finish the job.  I traveled from Outlands back to Azshara for more fishing.  From the flight path I ran past the Naga to the shore.

Just for fun I spotted some floating wreckage and tried to fish it.  After a few attempts I got my first Mithril Bound Trunk.  I opened it.  Inside a Weather-Beaten Journal.  Before I could link it in guild chat or take a screen shot, I read it and learned how to find fish.  I was so excited.  I called out on guild chat, “I found the wheather beaten journal.  I can now find fish.”  I spelled it wrong on guild chat.  All the lower level characters were like, “what’s that?”  My guild leader congratulated me.

Who ever knew that fishing finally would pay itself off.  I continued to fish that node until it disappeared.  Then I fished in the Bay of Storms for the remaing Darkclaw Lobsters.

I’m not done…

I decided since I’m in Azshara that I could finish a part of the only Hunter quest chain.  I needed to complete the quest Wavethrashing.  On the way to the Wavethrashers I found a Cliff Walker.  Ganked him for fun but then he dropped my first purple colored item Lei of Lilies.  On my auctioneer it says this thing sells for 150 G.  Scoring 2 rare drops I decided to head back to the AH post this one.  Hopefully it sells.

Fishing really pays well…

‘Til next time…

! Guntitan

Note:  If you check the drop list for the Cliff Walker(on Wowhead or Thottbot)  it says nothing about it dropping the Lei of Lillies.  I must be lucky.

Aye!

I made it to my “new home base,”  Shattrath City, and tried to fish outside of it.  During the quest Rather Be Fishin’ for Seth’s Graphite Fishing Pole, I ran out of eels to kill.   While waiting for them to respawn I tried fishing.  “Requires skill level of 400” or something like that.  WTF?  I’m only at 195.  I remembered a response to a post I put up on Wowhead’s forums that gave me a good fishing site.  Here it is:

http://www.elsanglin.com/

Yes.  I spent hours and hours in Feralas catching fish to level my fishing skill and cooking.  I’m not even done.  I think I should head back to Outlands.  I’m so tired of fishing.  The ironic news is that when I went to visit Nat Pagle to increase my max fishing skill  there was a level 80 leveling his fishing skill.  At least I’m not him.

I would hate to be someone who would be tempted to run some battlegrounds or instances to acquire some epic gear drops.  I’m just in Outlands trying to reach level 80 before some other expansion hits.  I am the king! <== couldn’t think of anything else to say.

I joined Scryer.  Is that bad for me?  Or it doesn’t matter ’cause there is better stuff in Outlands?

‘Til next time…
