Mists of Pandaria Beta: Hunter Glyphs and Engineering Scopes

New stuff will be floating around the web, if you haven’t heard the NDA from the press conference has been lifted and the MoP Beta is out.

This hunter related news is brought to you via WoWDB.

New Glyphs
Glyph of Marked for Death and Glyph of Mirrored Blades look the most useful.  I hate having to apply Hunter’s Mark to the target after I kill a mob.  I am also glad we will be able to make our Deterrence do something useful.  Now make glyph that allows us to attack while using Deterrence and we will be set for the expansion.

Glyph of Animal Bond
While your pet is active, all healing done to you and your pet is increased by 10%.

Glyph of Aspect of the Pack
Increases the range of your Aspect of the Pack by 15 yards

Glyph of Disengage
Increases the distance you travel when you Disengage.

Glyph of Freezing Trap
When your Freezing Trap breaks, the victim’s movement speed is reduced by 70% for 4 sec.

Glyph of Lesser Proportion
Slightly reduces the size of your pet.

Glyph of Marked for Death
Your Arcane Shot, Chimera Shot, Kill Command, and Explosive Shot abilities automatically apply Hunter’s Mark.

Glyph of Mirrored Blades
When attacked by a spell while in Deterrence, you have a 100% chance to reflect it back at the attacker.

New Scopes
Remember Hunters are the only ones who are going to be able to use range weapons to do damage.

Mirror Scope
Permanently attaches a mirrored scope to a ranged weapon, sometimes increases critical strike rating by 400 for 10 sec when dealing damage with ranged attacks.

Lord Blastington’s Scope of Doom
Permanently attaches Lord Blastington’s special scope to a ranged weapon, sometimes increases Agility by 200 for 10 sec when dealing damage with ranged attacks.

That’s it for now, maybe we will find out more stuff later.

Guntitan’s take on Transmogrification

Transmog or Transmogrification is something new to the World of Warcraft and a part of Patch 4.3.  When it was first announced, my first thought was, “Well… that’s useless.”

The new feature was first announced back in August and a little after you would see in trade chat “/2 LFG BWL for transmog run” or “/2 LFG BT transmog run.”  Everyone and their sons were doing old raid content from vanilla to BC and beyond.  It was amazing! Trade was alive again.  People and their toons had a reason to do old raids.

Trade is still alive with people putting together old raids.  After Patch 4.3 went live, everyone and their mothers were honing some oldie but goodie gears.  People were  unique in the game, people were putting together matching sets, and they just look amazing.  I never thought a feature that was so useless to me would actually make the game richer.

No one inspired me more than my guild leader.  We decided to do a Firelands pug after the patch went live and she went in wearing a truly unique matching set.  It looked so good.  I was impressed.  Someone that I knew actually used this feature and it works.

So here she is in all her priest sexiness and glory:

The Gear – Absolution Regalia

The Weapon – Frostscythe of Lord Ahune

The Mount – Deathcharger’s Reins

Then I decided to make my own transmog set.  I came up with:

The Gear – Nordrassil Harness

The Weapon – Pillar of Ferocity

Well there you go.  You can now enjoy killing old raid bosses for fun and obtain really old entirely useless gear except to use as a transmog item, create an entirely new outfit, and look amazing.  Especially now with Patch 4.3.2 you can enjoy doing these raids with some IRL friends that you have on real ID that you never play with because you are on different servers.  Good job Blizzard.  This is why World of Warcraft is the top MMO in the industry.  They keep just sucking you back in to the game.

Dragon Soul Hunter Loot

The difficulty path you seek is entirely up to you.  You can obtain gear from Raid Finder, regular Dragon Soul, or Heroic Dragon Soul. Weapons in Raid Finder are only available from Madness of Deathwing.  Each part of Raid Finder Dragon Soul gives you 250 Valor Points, giving you a easy way to obtain half of the valor you can get per week.

Here is the list:

Morchok

Hand
Sporebeard Gauntlets ( RF | Normal | Heroic )

Morchok is the lottery boss in Looking for Raid. He has a chance to drop every Raid Finder token.  Too bad he doesn’t drop the same tokens in regular or heroic DS.

Gauntlets of the Corrupted Protector turn in for Wyrmstalker’s Gloves.
Leggings of the Corrupted Protector turn in for Wyrmstalker’s Legguards.
Shoulders of the Corrupted Protector turn in for Wyrmstalker’s Spaulders.
Chest of the Corrupted Protector turn in for Wyrmstalker’s Tunic.
Crown of the Corrupted Protector turn in for Wyrmstalker’s Headguard.

Warlord Zon’ozz

Hand
Gauntlets of the Corrupted Protector ( RF | Normal | Heroic ) turn in for
Wyrmstalker’s Gloves ( RF | Normal | Heroic )

Range
Horrifying Horn Arbalest ( Normal | Heroic )

Yor’sahj the Unsleeping

Legs
Leggings of the Corrupted Protector ( RF | Normal | Heroic ) turn in for
Wyrmstalker’s Legguards ( RF | Normal | Heroic )

Two-Hand
Spire of Coagulated Globules ( Normal | Heroic )

Hagara the Stormbinder

Shoulder
Shoulders of the Corrupted Protector ( RF | Normal | Heroic ) turn in for
Wyrmstalker’s Spaulders ( RF | Normal | Heroic )

Feet
Treads of Dormant Dreams ( RF | Normal | Heroic )

Finger
Signet of Grasping Mouths ( RF | Normal | Heroic )

Ultraxion

Chest
Chest of the Corrupted Protector ( RF | Normal | Heroic ) turn in for
Wyrmstalker’s Tunic ( RF | Normal | Heroic )

Wrist
Bracers of Looming Darkness ( RF | Normal | Heroic )

Warmaster Blackhorn

Head
Crown of the Corrupted Protector ( RF | Normal | Heroic ) turn in for
Wyrmstalker’s Headguard ( RF | Normal | Heroic )

Trinket
Starcatcher Compass ( RF | Normal | Heroic )

Waist
Belt of the Beloved Companion ( RF | Normal | Heroic )

Spine of Deathwing

Trinket
Wrath of Unchaining ( RF | Normal | Heroic )

Madness of Deathwing

2-Hand
Kiril, Fury of Beasts ( RF | Normal | Heroic )

Range
Vishanka, Jaws of the Earth ( RF | Normal | Heroic )

Shared Boss Loot

Trinket
Vial of the Shadows ( RF | Normal | Heroic )

Trash Mobs

Range
Ruinblaster Shotgun – For a dwarf hunter, this is a powerful range weapon, because of the racial. It only drops from trash mobs in Normal Dragon Soul.

I hope the list helps. Good luck in the newest raid and good luck when it comes to drops. Raid finder is evil.

Note: I realized after I originally posted the post that I forgot to add in the links to the tier sets themselves. I will come around to do so in the near future.  At least I hope to do so, probably could have done it by now if I didn’t type up this disclaimer. Done!  I do have a nice little write up about the tier set bonuses right here.

4.3 Valor Point Priority

It is now a lot easier to hit Valor cap.  You can get 500 Valor Points from LFR (Looking For Raid) from doing both parts. If you are raiding you can accumulate the rest from the Dragon Soul raid or the new 5 mans (Well of Eternity, End Time, and Hour of Twilight).  With that I’ll leave you with a new valor point priority list:

Neck
Cameo of Terrible Memories – 1,250 Valor Points

Ring
Emergency Descent Loop – 1,250 Valor Points

The neck and ring slots are best in slot and should be the first items you get.

Waist
Cord of Dragon Sinew – 1,650 Valor Points

Back
Batwing Cloak – 1,250 Valor Points

Depending on what you have the waist can take priority over getting the back.  If you obtained Dreadfire Drape from normal Lord Rhyolith there isn’t much improvement except a nice chunk of stamina, if you have the heroic version of Dreadfire Drape then you wouldn’t waste any Valor on a new cloak.  The heroic version of Dreadfire Drape is BiS.

Boots
Boneshard Boots(BOE) – 1,650 Valor Points or Gold

Wrist
Dragonbelly Bracers(BOE) – 1,250 Valor Points or Gold

The feet and wrist are both BoE. I recommend using a alts Valor or gold to obtain both.  These 2 slots are dependent on what you already have or if you obtained gear from normal Dragon Soul or Dragon Soul LFR.  The wrist isn’t that good and you can refrain from getting them until the prices go down.

Trinket
Kiroptyric Sigil – 1,650 Valor Points

For the Trinket Slot it really depends on what you already have or if you obtained any from normal Dragon Soul, Dragon Soul LFR, or Firelands.  I personally play as a BM hunter and would rather enjoy this on use proc of thick agility and use it combined with Kill Command.  Frostheim wrote a nice write up on the new trinkets at Wow Insider.

Head, Chest, Hands

The priority of what pieces you obtain is impacted by the order you obtain the tier 13 pieces from regular Dragon Soul, Dragon Soul LFR, or Alizabal in Baradin Hold. For BM hunters the head, Zeherah’s Dragonskull Crown(2,200 Valor Points), is BiS. It is especially sexy since it’s named after Zeherah from FemaleDwarf.com.  The chest, Dragonflayer Vest(2,200 Valor Points), would be of the highest priority if your luck is running low.  I would save the hands, Arrowflick Gauntlets(1,650 Valor Points), for absolutely last since you might be able to get the tier gloves, Wyrmstalker’s Gloves, from either version of DS or BH.

Well… I’m pooped.

Patch 4.3 BM buffed!

20111014-155738.jpg

It looks like BM and SV are getting buffs. Tempted to go on the PTR to try it out.

Hunter

Beast Mastery

  • Animal Handler now increases attack power by 30%, up from 25%.
  • Survival

  • Explosive Shot base damage has been increased by 16%.
  • Pet

  • Thunderstomp now scales from 0.98% of Ranged Attack Power
  • It even looks like my tenacity pets are getting a buff. Maybe they will be the AOE kings again. Imagine a gorilla solo tanking with a ass stomp animation?

Blizzard give me more. Fix Kill Command’s range, Bestial Wrath’s cool down timer needs to be shorter, increase the damage that the hunter does during The Beast Within, and maybe increase the speed our pet runs by 30% by default.

That should fix our DPS being on the bottom. The frog pic is just some random pic from my phone.

    Zul’Aman and Zul’Gurub Hunter Loot

EDIT: Updated for 4.2 to reflect the changes to Valor and Justice Points.  You can get better gear from Firelands trash runs and daily quests.

The revamped instances have good gear that will replace your 346 items.  Even earning 140 Valor Points per instance will help you get 359s a little bit easier.  Beware the new instances can take a few hours to complete.

    Zul’Aman

    Akil’zon
Wristguards of the Predator – A good piece until you get the wrist from Chimaeron in Blackwing Descent.

    Nalorakk
Pauldrons of Nalorakk – A good shoulder piece until you get your tier 11 token from Cho’gall in Bastion of Twilight.

    Halazzi
Breastplate of Primal Fury – A good chest piece until you get your tier 11 with 2200 Justice Points.

    Hex Lord Malacrass
Waistband of Hexes – Most of us should use the crafted item Corded Viper Belt.  If you didn’t have a leatherworker friend or enough gold to make the 359 then get this belt.

    Daakara
Headdress of Sharpened Vision – Unless you are a engineer pick up this piece until you get your tier 11 helm token from Nefarian who is in Blackwing Descent or Arion’s Crown from Bastion of Twilight.

For completing Zul’Aman in a timely matter you could win the most famous cloak of them all the Recovered Cloak of Frostheim.

    Zul’Gurub

    Bloodlord Mandokir
Amulet of the Watcher – The neck you will pick up until you replace it with a 359.

    Edge of Madness
Handguards of the Tormented – Grab it until you replace it with the tier 11 gloves.

    High Priestess Kilnara
    Arlokk’s Signet – Easily replaceable.

    Zanzil
Zombie Walker Legguards – Grab it until you replace it with the tier 11 legs.

    Jin’do the Godbreaker
Jin’do’s Verdict – Until you get Malevolence grab this staff.

Mandokir’s Tribute – This bow is good for every single race except Dwarves.  The Gun from arena’s Vicious Gladiator’s Rifle is still better for dwarves.

That is all for now.  I’m thinking of making a list for feral druids.  I haven’t found any online but decked out my druid in epics from these 2 instances. Sadly I’ve been running them for Chaos Orbs so I could craft and sell some BoEs to make some gold.  But that, my friends, is another post or two posts.

    Cataclysm: Engineering Hunter Macros

This is my new defense macro.  You could use it when you are getting low on health and help out the healers. /use 6 is your belt enchant.  You could tinker Grounded Plasma Shield to your belt and use that to absorb some damage.  It helps in boss fights like in Blackwing Descent when you tackle Chimaeron and he deals Massacre to your whole raid or Halls of Origination when Anraphet does his AOE Omega Stance.

    #showtooltip Stoneform(Racial)
    /cast Stoneform(Racial)
    /cast Deterrence
    /use 6
    /cast [target=player] Master’s Call

Tinkering Synapse Springs or Tazik Shocker to all your shots is standard.  /use 10 is the macro line needed to use either of these tinkers.  The cool down for Synapse Springs is 1 min so you could use it twice during the time you use a trinket like Unsolvable Riddle,

    #showtooltip Arcane Shot
    /use 10
    /use 13
    /use 14
    /cast Arcane Shot

Not sure if there is any reason to have macros for some of the other on use items.  If I figure it out I’ll post them later.

    Patch 4.0.6 Official Notes

Today’s topid: Blizzard has released patch 4.0.6!

Why?: Because there are so many classes that got buffed up the kester when Cata came out.

Many people will not agree with what Blizzard did because it was there class that got nerfed. What they do not realize is that they are a minority! The entire WoW community has been screaming for these changes. Here are the finalized patch 4.0.6 notes.

    Hunters

    • Aimed Shot weapon damage has been increased to 200%, up from 150%. In addition, the base cast time has been reduced to 2.4 seconds, down from 3.
    • Arcane Shot damage has been increased by 15%.
    • Aspect of the Wild, Aspect of the Hawk, and Aspect of the Fox can now be cast while mounted.

    • Deterrence now provides 100% chance for melee attacks to miss instead of 100% parry chance. This means that attacks that cannot be parried, notably some rogue abilities, can now be prevented by Deterrence, and the hunter will gain the benefit of Deterrence even if disarmed.

        • Black Arrow damage has been reduced by 15%.
        • Explosive Shot damage has been reduced by 15%.
        • Hunter vs. Wild has been increased to 5/10/15% Stamina, up from 4/8/12%.
        • Into the Wilderness (passive) has been reduced to a 10% Agility increase, down from 15%.

      • Cobra Shot now properly increases the duration of the Serpent Spread Serpent Sting.
      • The Focus Fire spell effect is now cooler than your best collection of green rectangles.

        • Ancient Hysteria now correctly affects pets.
        • Embrace of the Shale Spider now provides resistances so that those resistances are not lost if this buff overwrites Blessing of Forgotten Kings.
        • Ferocity-category pets in the dog and fox families now have access to the pet talent Charge.
        • Mobility can correctly be learned by land-based hunter pets.

SHOUT OUTS: This shout out goes to all other hunters! BM is back baby! Wooters!

Thank you very much and happy hunting.

    VS

That’s right Karoma ate Skoll.  I was on my way to CoC(Crucible of Carnage), which btw gives good experience points for pets, to help my guildies when… I found Karoma.  What karma?

_NPCscan and Silverdragon went off and I dismounted.  That’s when Karoma one shot Skoll.  I couldn’t believe it.  I thought this must  be sign.  Karoma wants me to tame him and be my new spirit beast and DPS pet.  He was red and aggressive to me on my Beast Tracking and crazy huge compared to Skoll.  Before I could tame him I had to back off a little, Feign Death, Revive Pet, Dismiss Pet, then drop the Freezing Trap, and cast Tame Pet.  I was epic fast.

Then I specced him like so…

    http://www.wowhead.com/petcalc#mdd00ssz0hoRb

    Karoma Spec (DPS, PVE)

The spec allows your pet to get to next add after the first one dies lightning fast or get to the boss when they jump or run far away.  The spec and logic behind it is awesome sauce and I take no credit.  Thank you Frostheim.  Karoma also moves so fast that he gets to the next boss before I can manually switch targets.  How amazing is that?

Skoll used to be my DPS 5-man heroics pet and I do believe this soloing spec helps the healers with healing my pet and myself.  This spec with Spirit Mend also allowed my pet to tank 3 mobs with Growl turned on, in a heroic after the tank and 2 dps died with the healer still up.

    http://www.wowhead.com/petcalc#mdd00fc0zhkkb

    Skoll Spec (Solo, Pet Tank)

So why did Blizzard add more spirit beasts?  ‘Cause they are more leet than most non-BM hunters think.  It is time to re-spec you MM and SV hunters and tame one.

    • Bug Fixes

What kind of Dwarf hunter would I be if I didn’t post the update to the racial?  There are some buffs to engineering, too.  It looks like Dwarf hunters will be able to absorb some damage.  This will help us stay up a bit longer to put in that last Kill Shot or Kill Command before the boss goes down.  It will also help lessen a heal on us and save some mana for the healers.  I would use it when Kill Shot is up.  Maybe even macro it into your Kill Shot.  I think I posted that before.  I would even use it with the Engineering belt enchant Grounded Plasma Shield that absorbs damage or even use it after the duration of Stoneform is up.

For the hunter changes I am excited.  We are seeing a must needed buff to MM and BM hunters.  I would also like to add that the Kill Command buff might not be enough.  I was thinking they could reduced the cool down of Fervor to 1 minute.  That is something exclusive to the BM tree that could help with PVE/Raiding.  I am finding myself mostly using Cobra Shot, ignoring Arcane Shot, constantly waiting for Fervor to be off cool down, and always spamming Kill Command whenever it is ready.  As a BM hunter it hits so hard.  It is so much fun watching the boss/mobs health go down by a big chunk.  My final tip is to use Kill Shot.  Nothing hurts our dps more by neglecting Kill Shot.  Use a addon called TellMeWhen to help you watch for Kill Shot.
