Custom Windows Theme: NightSky

Hello everyone,

This is my first blog post regarding anything related to Windows.  I think it is.

Microsoft released an update back in 2016 regarding adding a background image to the Login Screen. My wishes were fulfilled (I actually submitted feed back requesting this feature when Windows 10 first came out).  I am not entirely sure when I noticed when it got implemented.

Google Images

Use Google Images to find your wallpapers. is not updated to the modern screen resolutions. Search by your preferred resolution and the words “anime wallpaper.”  Like this… “1920×1080 anime wallpaper”

File Manager

Save your preferred set of wallpapers in a New folder.  I picked a name that would be the name of my Theme. You can always rename it later. You could always back up the images you collect to Google drive and use it on multiple computers.

To easily save the image in the right screen resolution. After you conduct your search click the image you want.  Then Right click the image as seen above.  Then click Save Image as… you don’t need to rename it.

Choose your Background to be Slideshow.  Trust me.  Having it change is way cooler.  Plus if your second monitor is an extension of your primary monitor you will be able to have 2 different wallpapers on each screen.  Pick the folder you saved all your images in and Remove any other folders from the list “Chose albums for your slideshow.”  Don’t delete your Pictures folder in File Manager.

You can adjust the rate the images change.  I have mine at 30 minutes.  You want Shuffle to be on.

For Choose a fit I picked Center.  My second monitor is actually a TV with a lower resolution than my primary monitor. If I had lower resolution wallpapers to match my second monitor’s resolution the primary monitor wallpaper would look pixelated. At Center you preserve the integrity of the image without sacrificing image quality.  Edit: Fit is much better for screens with different aspect ratios and lower resolutions.  I would change it to Fit instead of Center. Either way it looks good.

You also have the option to change your background color.  It won’t matter if your wallpaper resolutions are the matching resolution of your screen.  It is set at Black for this theme.

For Colors you may automatically pick an accent color.  I don’t recommend this and would rather have a set color.  For this I choose Default Blue.  Transparency effects are On.  I disabled showing the accent color on the Start, taskbar, action center and Title bars.  Default app mode is set to Dark.

Lock screen

For some reason slideshow still uses Picture as your Lock screen.  Pick a picture from a part of your slide show as the Background. Then pick a folder for your slideshow.  You need to make sure to set up both.  Same as Background. If you have multiple folders here it will display all of them so Remove any additional folders.

For Taskbar settings, you could leave everything alone.  I do disable the Taskbar on Multiple displays.  I use my second monitor to stream shows from Netflix, VRV, Directvnow, etc. Having the taskbar on the second monitor is a minor annoyance. Also the primary monitor is lower than the secondary. It’s like up like a ZTE Axon M.

Custom Profile Icon

Click on Windows “Start Button.” Go to your Username. Right click it.  Click Change Account Settings.  Create your picture. Choose Browse for one. I used a picture from the collection I found on Google Images that matches well with my theme.

Once you are done. Go to Themes.

Save and name your Theme. You could go one step further and change your mouse and how it looks.

Below is the Zip file containing the collection of Wallpapers I discovered and are currently using for this theme:

Enjoy your new theme with a custom Lockscreen, Login screen, Backgrounds and a custom profile Icon that matches your Login screen.

Here is a Bonus Image I forgot to include in the Zip file.  I can’t use it at work but my theme on the work computer is the same setup.

NightSky Theme

I just figured out that these were once the regular dogs that were here.

My brother wanted me to move servers with him so he paid for my server transfers.  Crazy huh?

I redid the bank alt about 4 times on the new server.  I finally settled for the name Skullcoins (she’s a DK).  Used the same white hair color, face, skin color or as close as I could remember.  Originally I was leveling this Death Knight thinking Doubloon is still on Sargeras and I left her behind.

The Death Knight

The Death Knight

Felt guilty about leaving her but it had to be done.  When I finally got to Stormwind, I purchased x8 inexpensive Netherweave Bags and x4 Frostweave Bags.  Purchased the bank slots and equipped the bags.

I purchased the guild charter and luckily got 4 guildless souls to sign my charter, one was Liddy.  I named the new guild bank <The Nightmare Banker>.  Then Purchased the first 3 guild bank slots.  I’ll probably pick up more slots when I start to make more gold.

I started to put back all the mats, BOAs, etc in the bank and newly formed guild bank.  We were putting things on the AH and moving items between toons.  She started to feel like Doubloon.

Then as soon as I moved over my old bank alt gear to her and equipped them.  She transformed back in to Doubloon.  My bank alt is back.  Same skin, different name and a higher level.  The benefits out weighed the costs.  You now have a better bank alt.

The Bank Alt

The Bank Alt

She will cook for you, fish for you, store your goods, organize your bank for you, run to the store for you, etc.  Just like a good house wife. She already comes equipped ready to bandage you with First Aid at level 270 and unlocked recipes.

You can still put Enchanting and Engineering on her.  She will have access to higher profession levels which is especially useful for disenchanting low level mats.

She will wear the finest outfits up to level 60 or greater which equates to more looks. She can still equip the Diamond-Tipped Cane.  She also has access to pink hair if you are a Night Elf.  My brother recommends leveling your bank alt to level 70 so you can have access to more variation of looks with the gear from Outland.

She will have a mini sprint called Death’s Advance.  She will also get free ground riding from being a Death Knight.  The Death Gate to Ebon Hold will get you around Azeroth.  She will have access to a bunch of flight points for access to those secret vendors that sell you those recipes and other items for profit.   She will even ride your flying mount because just one more level and she’ll have flight.

If you level the bank alt higher you will get access to unique but useful traveling abilities.

Level 58
Death’s Advocate – A mini sprint which increases your passive run speed by 10% and when activated will increase your run speed by 30%.

Level 61
On a Pale Horse – An ability that passively increases your mount speed by 20%.

Level 66
Path of Frost – An ability which will allow you and your raid members to walk on water.  This ability is so useful my brother actually won the Stranglethorn fishing tournament on a level 70 Death Knight.  He did get a lot of unpleasant whispers that day.

Please see additional information on the original The Bank Alt Post.  I hope you will take the time to redo your bank alts.  It was the most unpleasant experience of my life but worth it.  It was like pulling String of Alligator Teeth out of the Bag of Shiny Things from Dalaran’s fishing daily .

So you roll a Deathknight? Your main of another class has 2 gathering professions. Skinning and mining. You want to tank so you make your DK a leather worker and a blacksmith.

Wait this is not how it began…

You open your box, spend some time with the install disk, then spend minutes installing a giant game. You never heard of Wowhead or Wowinsider. You don’t even know what class to pick. You just know your friends told you to play horde on a specific server. You roll a toon, play it a bit, give up because warlock pets are so damn ugly.

Log out…

The next day you log back in and notice the dwarf with the bear on the Vanilla trailer. You like that. Log back on and play on your warlock. Level up some tailoring and enchanting give up.

Log out…

You decide to not to play with your Horde friends and roll a dwarf.

You run thru the snow your first 10-15 levels then meet some random dude in Wetlands. He tells you to level because WotLK is coming out. You are like “WotLK?”

Reroll on a different server because this guy just scared you by talking about some undead invasion and all that reminds you of are the zombies from the first Resdient Evil game.

Reroll your dwarf on one of those new player servers. You pick red hair this time and a long comfortable beard.

You level at your own pace. Don’t even hit level 70 until after WotLK comes out. You buy the collector’s edition because your Horde friend tells you to and your new guild is bad ass because everyone is online at the same time and everyone is leveling.

You decided to level Engineering because you are a Hunter and you can make your own bullets and range weapon. You also like the look of googles. Pre-transmog. You pick mining to help you level Engineering. You start a blog on WordPress to help you keep track of all the resources and blogs you discover.

You did not get 2 gathering professions on your first toon.

Min/Max is now entirely pointless.

I am joining the band wagon.

If you haven’t heard Lae at World of Lae is starting weeks of class discussion across the blogosphere, twittersphere, etc.

This Deathknight is the first Deathknight I ever got past level 70.

I got her to level 67 by the end of Cata. Then I dusted her off a few months ago and really started to level.

Why did I pick the professions?

I originally wanted to make her a BS/JC to min/max during Cata. I ended up leveling a Rogue first in Mop and putting ENG/BS on that toon. I figured pairing JC with mining because I was going to need ores to level JC.  It feels natural to have a toon that can do both Prospecting and Smelting.  It also seems weird not having those next to each other on my crafting bar.

I went JC for them mounts. I am trying get 200 mounts achievement. That’s one of the things I like to do in this game.

You also get Toughness from Mining and the Jewelcrafting only gems, Solid Serpent’s Eye and Fractured Serpent’s Eye.

Why a female Night Elf?

I like it when female night elves jump in place. Everything bounces. I mean Everything.

Pink Hair. Omg Pink Hair. So sexy.  The pink hair matches so well with the Blood Worms.

Now look at them Racials.

Nature Resistance – Reduces nature damage by 1%.

Quickness – Now gives you a 2% increased chance to Dodge. I still thought it only gave 1%.  I forgot it changed during MoP.

Shadowmeld – It’s like having a Hunter’s Feign Death. You wipe aggro but you turn invisible.  Especially usually for a tank during a situation when you know everyone else is going to die. Especially if the healer is already down.

Wisp Spirit – Increases your speed by 75% while dead.  As tank it would be so helpful for running back.  If you die in certain places like Icecrown you can fly as a wisp.  So awesome.

About the Deathknight class

I am debating if I should go for Shadowmourne.

I discovered that tanking ain’t easy. It’s a self conscious effort most of the time. I also wanted a tank so I could get pets and mounts out of the bags from heroics.

I like the Dots placed by diseases. I like how it holds aggro when you spread them with Blood Boil. I feel like Blood spec will be like the same affinity I have for BM Hunters.

I like Death Grip. Feeling like Scorpion is such a good feelng. Even that new one, Asphyxiate, makes you feel like Darthvader.

I like that DKs have Runeforging and don’t need enchants on their weapons. Enchants are so expensive. I like that the Runeforges are unique.

As a blood DK I feel invincible. I can’t wait until I try arenas or PVP.

I would gank lowbies with my DK.

I like the unique mount models Archerus Deathcharger and Winged Steed of the Ebon Blade.

DKs walk on water with Path of Frost and this toon will be a fisherman.  The ability may also help you win the fishing contest.

I always wanted Platekini transmog sets.

I wish the lore would continue. Its like everything stopped in Northend. What are the Knights of the Ebon Blade doing right now? I could imagine them having epics battles in Icecrown against the remaining Scourge. They must really be trying for the Super Simian Sphere. They must have a bank alts bank filled with Frostweave Cloth.

That’s my take on #DeathKnightWeek.

Guntitan’s take on Transmogrification

Transmog or Transmogrification is something new to the World of Warcraft and a part of Patch 4.3.  When it was first announced, my first thought was, “Well… that’s useless.”

The new feature was first announced back in August and a little after you would see in trade chat “/2 LFG BWL for transmog run” or “/2 LFG BT transmog run.”  Everyone and their sons were doing old raid content from vanilla to BC and beyond.  It was amazing! Trade was alive again.  People and their toons had a reason to do old raids.

Trade is still alive with people putting together old raids.  After Patch 4.3 went live, everyone and their mothers were honing some oldie but goodie gears.  People were  unique in the game, people were putting together matching sets, and they just look amazing.  I never thought a feature that was so useless to me would actually make the game richer.

No one inspired me more than my guild leader.  We decided to do a Firelands pug after the patch went live and she went in wearing a truly unique matching set.  It looked so good.  I was impressed.  Someone that I knew actually used this feature and it works.

So here she is in all her priest sexiness and glory:

The Gear – Absolution Regalia

The Weapon – Frostscythe of Lord Ahune

The Mount – Deathcharger’s Reins

Then I decided to make my own transmog set.  I came up with:

The Gear – Nordrassil Harness

The Weapon – Pillar of Ferocity

Well there you go.  You can now enjoy killing old raid bosses for fun and obtain really old entirely useless gear except to use as a transmog item, create an entirely new outfit, and look amazing.  Especially now with Patch 4.3.2 you can enjoy doing these raids with some IRL friends that you have on real ID that you never play with because you are on different servers.  Good job Blizzard.  This is why World of Warcraft is the top MMO in the industry.  They keep just sucking you back in to the game.
