Okay that was a task. In a vain attempt last night and using Gimp, I tried to create my own icon file that was 16 by 16 pixels for the blog. If you don’t know what I am talking about, look at the icon next to the website URL up on the address bar. For whatever reason, it kept saving it as 16 x 15 pixels or 15 x 14 pixels, whenever I would convert to a .ico file. Frustrated I went to bed, even rejecting my buddy, Bodie, to PVP on my fairly new Goblin mage.

Today on my way to work, I did a little more research and found some websites. I discovered this awesome video…

When I got home from work, my brother wanted to run Sethekk Halls and Heroic Utgarde Pinnacle for some mounts. During my half hearted run, I made my new logo at 64 x 64 pixels. Then saved it as a .gif so that when re-opened in Gimp the image would stay its own layer.

When we finished our mount runs, I copied my initial layer and scaled the layer to the following sizes: 32 x 32 pixels, 24 x 24 pixels, and 16 x 16 pixels; using the 64 x 64 pixel layer to copy each time. Saved the file as a .ico. Logged in to my hosting account, uploaded my new icon, and pointed my browser to http://www.drunkendwarf.net/favicon.ico. It worked but still wasn’t showing up on my address bar.

Then I remembered about the header and seeing a tidbit of code that points your web browser to the right .ico file:

<link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”http://drunkendwarf.net/favicon.ico” type=”image” />

I guess for some servers and browsers, it isn’t enough for you just to place your .ico in the right directory.

Finally it worked. You may be asking why talk about some website technical difficulty?

It’s a lesson on perseverance. If I gave up on the endeavor, my website would still be without a favicon.ico, and I would still lack the knowledge of the full capabilities of Gimp. I would be still be sitting on my thumbs and left wondering if it was me or just the computer.

I overcame a challenge and completed a task I never did before. I want you to think about how this relates to your real life situations and World of Warcraft. For instance, playing my mage as Fire never netted me any results. My DPS sucked and I wasn’t sure if it was my lack of enchants, my understanding of the rotation, or my gear. A few people told me to try Arcane.

Today before work. I switched my Fire spec to Arcane, changed my glyphs, and queued for Raid Finder. The results were astounding, well more so after I read and re-read the rotation, yes a 2 year old could do it. Even if it is just a 2 button spam, it isn’t going to stop me from playing the spec. I did more DPS than I ever seen before on this toon. I finally felt like I am contributing and I hope to see more results the more I play.

If I just settled for Fire and never tried Arcane, my DPS would still be low, I would have been left wondering if my gear sucked or my enchants were still lacking or that I need to reforge. It’s like me using Gimp. If I didn’t commit the time to do research, my .ico file would still be broken.

With perseverance comes rewards, whether it be school, work, play, money, chicks, babies, or website building skills or World of Warcraft.

I’ll leave you with that.

‘Til next time…

! Guntitan

New stuff will be floating around the web, if you haven’t heard the NDA from the press conference has been lifted and the MoP Beta is out.

This hunter related news is brought to you via WoWDB.

New Glyphs
Glyph of Marked for Death and Glyph of Mirrored Blades look the most useful. I hate having to apply Hunter’s Mark to the target after I kill a mob. I am also glad we will be able to make our Deterrence do something useful. Now make glyph that allows us to attack while using Deterrence and we will be set for the expansion.

Glyph of Animal Bond
While your pet is active, all healing done to you and your pet is increased by 10%.

Glyph of Aspect of the Pack
Increases the range of your Aspect of the Pack by 15 yards

Glyph of Disengage
Increases the distance you travel when you Disengage.

Glyph of Freezing Trap
When your Freezing Trap breaks, the victim’s movement speed is reduced by 70% for 4 sec.

Glyph of Lesser Proportion
Slightly reduces the size of your pet.

Glyph of Marked for Death
Your Arcane Shot, Chimera Shot, Kill Command, and Explosive Shot abilities automatically apply Hunter’s Mark.

Glyph of Mirrored Blades
When attacked by a spell while in Deterrence, you have a 100% chance to reflect it back at the attacker.

New Scopes
Remember Hunters are the only ones who are going to be able to use range weapons to do damage.

Mirror Scope
Permanently attaches a mirrored scope to a ranged weapon, sometimes increases critical strike rating by 400 for 10 sec when dealing damage with ranged attacks.

Lord Blastington’s Scope of Doom
Permanently attaches Lord Blastington’s special scope to a ranged weapon, sometimes increases Agility by 200 for 10 sec when dealing damage with ranged attacks.

That’s it for now, maybe we will find out more stuff later.

‘Til next time…

Transmog or Transmogrification is something new to the World of Warcraft and a part of Patch 4.3. When it was first announced, my first thought was, “Well… that’s useless.”

The new feature was first announced back in August and a little after you would see in trade chat “/2 LFG BWL for transmog run” or “/2 LFG BT transmog run.” Everyone and their sons were doing old raid content from vanilla to BC and beyond. It was amazing! Trade was alive again. People and their toons had a reason to do old raids.

Trade is still alive with people putting together old raids. After Patch 4.3 went live, everyone and their mothers were honing some oldie but goodie gears. People were unique in the game, people were putting together matching sets, and they just look amazing. I never thought a feature that was so useless to me would actually make the game richer.

No one inspired me more than my guild leader. We decided to do a Firelands pug after the patch went live and she went in wearing a truly unique matching set. It looked so good. I was impressed. Someone that I knew actually used this feature and it works.

So here she is in all her priest sexiness and glory:

The Gear - Absolution Regalia

The Weapon – Frostscythe of Lord Ahune

The Mount – Deathcharger’s Reins

Then I decided to make my own transmog set. I came up with:

The Gear – Nordrassil Harness

The Weapon - Pillar of Ferocity

Well there you go. You can now enjoy killing old raid bosses for fun and obtain really old entirely useless gear except to use as a transmog item, create an entirely new outfit, and look amazing. Especially now with Patch 4.3.2 you can enjoy doing these raids with some IRL friends that you have on real ID that you never play with because you are on different servers. Good job Blizzard. This is why World of Warcraft is the top MMO in the industry. They keep just sucking you back in to the game.

‘Til next time…

! Guntitan

So you are level 85, maxed out your toon’s professions, your toon is almost in all 397 ilevel epics, and it’s towards the end of the expansion… Now you are so bored. You even thought about going to play one of those other lesser MMOs but found out there’s no good MMOs for Macs. Back on your toon, you are sitting in Stormwind, holding your map out, checking your mail box for rares, and there’s only blues and greens, you got from doing solo Kara runs, which you were trying to sell on the AH. Look no further. Gun has something for you to do.

Burgy Blackheart’s Handsome Hat - I look for Burgy on my druid while I swim around for Poseidus who drops Reins of Posiedus. The hat turns you into a gnome pirate, makes you semi-transparent, and when you mount everything is bigger… I mean the mounts are bigger… wait, let me try again… when you are on top the mounts get bigger. Ugh! Never-mind you get the idea.

Bone Fishing Pole - The Bag of Fishing Treasures, a reward from the Dalaran fishing daily, or Bag of Shiny Things, reward from the Stormwind or Ironforge fishing Daily, drop the fishing pole. You have 2 chances a day to get the pole. The bags also have a chance to drop Jeweled Fishing Pole, Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat, and Strand Crawler.

Sea Turtle – Obtain this rare turtle fishing from fishing pools in Northend or Cataclysm zones. It might take some luck, some RNG, some praying to the Blizzard Gods (aka The Lost Vikings), or stepping in Worgen poo. Oh yeah I went there. You all know that the Lost Vikings 2 was the best game Blizzard ever made before Warcraft.

Salty the title – This will take some work and will require you to win either fishing tournament, do some random fishing everywhere, fish up some rare catches, and do fishing dailies once in a while. I recommend trying to win Saturday’s tournament. Sunday’s is kinda hard when the other faction comes up to you and ganks you.

If you obtain all of these treasures and hopefully more you can end up looking like this:

A Bone Fishing Pole wielding pirate gnome who is Salty because he is dead on a Sea Turtle.

While leveling fishing on my druid and fishing for feast mats for our guild run(which we didn’t get to go on due to lack of people online), I came across the famous Mysterious Camel Figurine, figured it was going to turn in to dust. It didn’t. Instead it ported me to somewhere in the middle of no where.

There Dormus was standing in all his camel-hoarding glory with a golden dragon around his portrait. I feral charged in and attacked him with heavy paws. He dropped the mount Reins of the Grey Riding Camel, got the Feat of Strength Scourer of the Eternal Sands, and the title “the Camel-Hoarder.”

This Druid is officially luckier than Guntitan.

The difficulty path you seek is entirely up to you. You can obtain gear from Raid Finder, regular Dragon Soul, or Heroic Dragon Soul. Weapons in Raid Finder are only available from Madness of Deathwing. Each part of Raid Finder Dragon Soul gives you 250 Valor Points, giving you a easy way to obtain half of the valor you can get per week.

Here is the list:

Morchok

Hand
Sporebeard Gauntlets ( RF | Normal | Heroic )

Morchok is the lottery boss in Looking for Raid. He has a chance to drop every Raid Finder token. Too bad he doesn’t drop the same tokens in regular or heroic DS.

Note: I realized after I originally posted the post that I forgot to add in the links to the tier sets themselves. <del>I will come around to do so in the near future. At least I hope to do so, probably could have done it by now if I didn’t type up this disclaimer.</del> Done! I do have a nice little write up about the tier set bonuses right here.

It is now a lot easier to hit Valor cap. You can get 500 Valor Points from LFR (Looking For Raid) from doing both parts. If you are raiding you can accumulate the rest from the Dragon Soul raid or the new 5 mans (Well of Eternity, End Time, and Hour of Twilight). With that I’ll leave you with a new valor point priority list:

Neck
Cameo of Terrible Memories - 1,250 Valor Points

Ring
Emergency Descent Loop - 1,250 Valor Points

The neck and ring slots are best in slot and should be the first items you get.

Waist
Cord of Dragon Sinew - 1,650 Valor Points

Back
Batwing Cloak - 1,250 Valor Points

Depending on what you have the waist can take priority over getting the back. If you obtained Dreadfire Drape from normal Lord Rhyolith there isn’t much improvement except a nice chunk of stamina, if you have the heroic version of Dreadfire Drape then you wouldn’t waste any Valor on a new cloak. The heroic version of Dreadfire Drape is BiS.

Boots
Boneshard Boots(BOE) - 1,650 Valor Points or Gold

Wrist
Dragonbelly Bracers(BOE) - 1,250 Valor Points or Gold

The feet and wrist are both BoE. I recommend using a alts Valor or gold to obtain both. These 2 slots are dependent on what you already have or if you obtained gear from normal Dragon Soul or Dragon Soul LFR. The wrist isn’t that good and you can refrain from getting them until the prices go down.

Trinket
Kiroptyric Sigil - 1,650 Valor Points

For the Trinket Slot it really depends on what you already have or if you obtained any from normal Dragon Soul, Dragon Soul LFR, or Firelands. I personally play as a BM hunter and would rather enjoy this on use proc of thick agility and use it combined with Kill Command. Frostheim wrote a nice write up on the new trinkets at Wow Insider.

Head, Chest, Hands

The priority of what pieces you obtain is impacted by the order you obtain the tier 13 pieces from regular Dragon Soul, Dragon Soul LFR, or Alizabal in Baradin Hold. For BM hunters the head, Zeherah’s Dragonskull Crown(2,200 Valor Points), is BiS. It is especially sexy since it’s named after Zeherah from FemaleDwarf.com. The chest, Dragonflayer Vest(2,200 Valor Points), would be of the highest priority if your luck is running low. I would save the hands, Arrowflick Gauntlets(1,650 Valor Points), for absolutely last since you might be able to get the tier gloves, Wyrmstalker’s Gloves, from either version of DS or BH.

Well… I’m pooped.

‘Til next time…

! Guntitan
